Campaigner Review: Pros & Cons, Features, Ratings, Pricing and more

Campaigner was founded in 1999 at a time when the internet and email were still in their infancy. It’s one of the oldest email marketing tools and latched onto the hypergrowth of the internet to win customers. The company was founded by two entrepreneurs, Hemi Zucker and Zohar Loshitzer, to help businesses reach customers via email.

Campaigner has grown from being a simple email marketing tool into a full-fledged marketing platform with many features. In 2021, it added SMS marketing to its toolset. You can also find tools to build signup forms and landing pages.

This company has offices across Ottawa, Newcastle, Kyiv, New York City, Raleigh, and Los Angeles.

Campaigner: Plans and pricing

Campaigner has no free plan, which puts it at a disadvantage compared to competitors. However, it offers a 30-day free trial for all its premium plans.

To use Campaigner, you can pay for only Email marketing features or Email and SMS marketing features in one bundle. If you’re paying for only email, you can pick from one of three plans; Starter, Essential, Advanced. The Starter plan costs $59 / £50 / AUD$100 per month and supports up to 5,000 contacts. Essential costs $179 / £165 / AUD$250 per month for up to 25,000 contacts. Advanced costs $649 / £620 / AUD$1000 per month for up to 100,000 contacts.

The email + SMS bundle also has three plans; Starter, Essential, and Advanced. The Starter plan costs $104 / £95 / AUD$150 per month for up to 5,000 contacts. Essential costs $224 / £210 / AUD$340 per month for up to 25,000 contacts and Advanced costs $694 / £660 / AUD$1000 per month for up to 100,000 contacts.

Campaigner also offers an e-commerce bundle that lets you integrate your marketing functions with Shopify or Magento. You can pick from one of your plans; Starter, Essential, Advanced, and Enterprise. Starter costs $80 / £75 / AUD$120 per month for up to 30,000 emails. Essential costs $100 / £95 / AUD$150 per month for up to 45,000 emails and Advanced costs $150 / £140 / AUD$225 per month for up to 75,000 emails. The Enterprise plan has no standard pricing; you’ll have to contact Campaigner’s sales team directly for a quote.

Campaigner: Features

Creating effective marketing emails can be difficult. Campaigner makes it easier by providing a collection of email templates that you can edit to fit your brand. You can use the drag-and-drop builder to edit any template you pick or build a layout from scratch. Campaigner’s templates are responsive such that they’re optimized for any type of display (smartphone, tablet, and desktop) out of the box.

You can create forms on Campaigner and embed them on your website to gather email addresses for your list. You can customize your forms by adding more fields or by offering them in multiple languages. Any information added to the form will automatically reflect on your Campaigner dashboard.

You can also create landing pages that’ll share the same messaging as your email campaign to lure customers. The pages are hosted on Campaigner’s servers and you can send the link to your prospects to view it and sign up on the forms you embed there.

Once you have a contact list, Campaigner makes it easy to send messages to them via email or SMS. You can also send automated messages triggered by user actions on your website.

Campaigner: Interface and use

We found Campaigner to be a little more clunky than we anticipated. The email designer, for example, requires that you click through multiple screens before you can start editing an email. While we liked having the ability to drag and drop content, the editing menu was also somewhat outdated and a little bit difficult to navigate.

The workflow automation builder, which uses a visual designer similar to what competitors offer, was also less than perfectly smooth. You have a significant degree of freedom to build triggers and conditional responses. But, trigger, response, and filter options are found on a different page from the workflow you’re in the process of building.

Campaigner: Support

Campaigner provides 24/7 support by phone, email, and live chat. The company’s website also includes a detailed knowledge base. Most tutorials don’t include videos or screenshots, but they’re complete enough to walk you through the process they describe.

Campaigner: The competition

If you want marketing automation at a lower price point, consider ConvertKit. This platform is built around a visual automation designer that makes it easy to customize triggers, responses, and conditionals. ConvertKit can be pricey if you have a large subscriber base, but workflow automation is standard with every paid plan.

Campaigner: Final verdict

Campaigner is a good choice for email marketers who need eCommerce integration, but not custom workflow automation. The platform makes the latter feature extremely expensive to access. We found that Campaigner is somewhat clunky to use, but it can be especially versatile if you have multiple employees involved in email marketing.
